Sublime honored a music legend during their set at the 2026 iHeartRadio ALTer EGO presented by Capital One, taking time to pay tribute to Bob Weir one week after his death.

During their high-energy set at The Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday (January 17), Sublime remembered the founding member of Grateful Dead, who passed away January 10 at the age of 78. Singer Jakob Nowell, son of late original singer Bradley Nowell, got the crowd to have a moment of silence for Weir before the band put their spin on the Grateful Dead's "Scarlet Begonias."

Nowell, who said he broke his leg at the last festival the band played, didn't let his injury keep him from having a fun time with the crowd and putting on an exciting show, moving between walking around on crutches and rolling over the stage on a scooter.

The rest of Sublime's time of stage was packed with some of their biggest hits and fan-favorite tracks, including "Date Rape," "Wrong Way," "Doin' Time, "What I Got," "April 29th, 1992 (Miami)," "Same In The End," "Santeria" and "Ensenada," the band's first song from their first album in 30 years.

The band revealed in March 2025 that they were working on their first full-length album since their 1996 self-titled project, collaborating with late original singer Bradley Nowell's son Jakob as well as producer John Feldmann and blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

“Travis is an old-school fan and scholar of the Sublime catalog,” Jakob said. “They feel like family members now too, man. There was that feeling from everyone that what we’re doing here is something generational and special on an emotional, spiritual, familial level.”

In a statement, Barker shared his admiration for the band, specifically calling out their debut album 40oz. to Freedom as "[changing] the way I listened to music."

"Creating music for this album has been so fun and exciting," he said. "Bradley comes through his son Jakob while writing in the studio and performing. Chills every day in the studio when he sings and plays guitar. This is going to be really special."

Sublime is one of several alternative artists and rock groups nominated to take home a trophy at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26, earning nods in categories like Alternative Song of the Year and Alternative Artist of the Year. See the full list of nominees here.
